Women’s Leadership Council Announces Jodi Picoult as Speaker for 2017 Luncheon
This year we are proud to announce renowned author Jodi Picoult as our key speaker. Jodi (Nineteen Minutes, My Sister’s Keeper, Small Great Things) is a leader in the ranks of hard-working women. Along with being an award winning author (2013-2014 New Hampshire Literary Award for Outstanding Literary Merit, 2007 Cosmopolitan‘s Fearless Fiction Award, 2003 New England Bookseller Award for Fiction) she is also a wife and mother of three. While writing her first graphic novel, Jodi was often compared to her heroine “Wonder Woman.” When paralleled to the superhero, Jodi had this to say:
‘‘You can be the strongest woman in the world, and be incredibly sure of yourself in many realms of your life, and yet there’s always going to be a chink in your armor. There’s always going to be one part of your life that you wonder, ‘Am I doing a good enough job?’’
The way that Jodi writes her female characters and the way she expresses herself speaks volumes of how she sees women. We could not have picked a better speaker to inspire and uplift the great female leaders in our community.
Not only are Jodi Picoult’s writings broadly well received, but they are also stimulating, provocative and remind us of the type of person we aspire to be. As the keynote speaker, Jodi will share her own story. She will let us hear the “facts behind the fiction” and help us see how we can stride beyond our means to accomplish our life’s ambitions.
We will be holding the Women’s Leadership Luncheon on Thursday, May 4, 2017. The luncheon will be held at Rosen Shingle Creek (9939 Universal Blvd., Orlando, FL 32819). Besides being inspired by Jodi, it is also a chance to network with hundreds of Central Florida’s most influential women leaders. You will also be supporting the United Way’s education and literacy initiatives as all proceeds will benefit local schools’ reading programs.
The Heart of Florida United Way and Jodi Picoult look forward to seeing you and inspiring the female leaders in our community!
