‘Tis the season of giving!

This holiday season, Heart of Florida United Way (HFUW) has announced a sum of investments in community agencies that provide basic needs and financial stability support to stabilize Central Florida families in need known as ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed).

In total, $1,135,000 was distributed for immediate use by 17 agencies to help address growing, basic community needs in Orange, Osceola, and Seminole counties.

The following agencies received a portion of the $1,135,000 investment in general operating support: Adult Literacy League, Catholic Charities of Central Florida, Inc., Christian HELP Employment & Resource Center, Christian Service Center for Central Florida, Inc., Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida, Harbor House of Central Florida, Help Now of Osceola, JFS Greater Orlando, Jobs Partnership of Florida, Meals on Wheels, Osceola Council on Aging, SafeHouse of Seminole, Salvation Army, Sanford Corp., Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida, Seniors First, Inc., The Sharing Center, and United Against Poverty.

These local nonprofits continue to work tirelessly to keep Central Floridians facing insurmountable challenges afloat. ALICE families are one crisis away from financial ruin, many have either depleted or have limited savings to make ends meet.

With these investments, partner agencies allow for more support to ALICE families with the services needed to get them through a difficult time.

This is part of a series of investments under HFUW’s revamped “Investor Model,” giving us the flexibility to respond to unanticipated needs, crises, or opportunities. The Investor Model also provides general support ensuring that these dollars are more valuable to agencies and have a greater impact on our community.
