HFUW Invests $42,000 in The Mustard Seed of Central Florida

Blog Mustard Seed Investment

It has been over six months since Hurricane Ian and Nicole hit Central Florida, yet our local families are still rebuilding their lives and homes.

Recently, Heart of Florida United Way (HFUW) invested $42,000 in The Mustard Seed of Central Florida to aid in efforts to help families affected by Hurricanes Ian and Nicole. With thousands of homes flooded and damaged, The Mustard Seed will use the funds to provide and deliver furniture to those affected.

Support from Heart of Florida United Way has helped individuals like Curtis, who in the midst of dialysis and being on the wait list for a kidney, found himself being rescued by boat when flood waters claimed his home. Curtis came to receive services with The Mustard Seed after six months of home remediation and drywall replacement. Curtis received 21 pieces of furniture to make his house a home.

For elderly couple Phyllis and James, Hurricane Ian took everything from them except their walkers. They relocated to Orlando after the storm and settled into a retirement community without anything. With no beds or furniture, Phyllis was left to sleep on a folding chair, and James on the floor, where he developed carpet burn after just a week. The Mustard Seed delivered all the furniture they needed. “The moment your staff left, I crawled into bed and napped for 4 hours. It was so good to sleep in a bed,” said James.

In this video, you’ll meet two recent clients of The Mustard Seed of Central Florida, Shania Chambers and Belinda Wards, who were so thankful for their new furniture to make their house a home again.
