Heart of Florida United Way Announces Honorees for 7th Annual Change Maker Impact Awards

Heart of Florida United Way is excited to announce the honorees for its 7th annual Change Maker Impact Awards. This prestigious event celebrates individuals and organizations that are driving positive change in Central Florida. 

Change Maker of the Year will be awarded to Ken Robinson of Dr. Phillips, Inc. in recognition of the vision and transformation that has taken place in the Packing District in the City of Orlando. A new community, the Packing District showcases the history of the neighborhood while providing amenities such as wellness spaces, urban farming and a network of plazas. These enhancements provide new employment opportunities, as well as recreational and cultural spaces for the region to enjoy. 

Live United Impact Awards 

  • Financial Stability: Wells Fargo 
     
    Wells Fargo has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to financial stability in Central Florida. They recently supported the expansion of Bank On, a program directly benefiting Central Floridians by empowering them to open bank accounts and achieve financial security. Furthermore, they invested in a mobile computer lab that will be used to expand vital financial education programs. 
     
  • Basic Needs: Marty Rubin, Smart City Telecom 
     
    As the biggest supporter of HFUW’s Thanksgiving Project since its inception in 2019, Marty’s contribution this year enabled the distribution of a record-breaking 5,000 meal kits, feeding 20,000 people in Central Florida. 
     
  • Health: Heather Wilkie, Zebra Coalition 
     
    Heather’s leadership at Zebra Youth Coalition has transformed the lives of countless LGBTQ+ at-risk youth in Central Florida. By providing essential wraparound services such as short-term housing, mental health counseling, and access to a drop-in center, she has empowered young people to overcome adversity and build a brighter future. 
     
  • Education: Bill Daniel, Boone High School 
     
    Bill’s 30-year commitment to education and financial literacy is evident in his role as a VITA site coordinator and leader of the Boone High School VITA program. By providing real-world experience in tax preparation and advocating for financial stability, he has inspired and equipped students to make informed financial decisions.   

Community Choice Awards 

  • Unsung Hero: Marilyn King 
     
    Marilyn is a trailblazing advocate for healthcare equity in Central Florida. She co-founded Grace Medical Home, a vital resource providing comprehensive care to the ALICE (Asset Limited Income Constrained Employed) population. 
     
  • Women United Impact Award: Malika Harrison 
     
    With a distinguished career spanning both the public and private sectors, Malika has made significant contributions to early learning, mentoring, and community development in Central Florida and now serves as the President and CEO of MENTOR Florida. 
     
  • Emerging Leader Impact Award: Britt Johnson Jr. 
     
    Raised in challenging circumstances, Britt selflessly prioritized his siblings’ well-being, putting his own dreams on hold. Through unwavering determination and hard work, he earned his GED, associate degree, and Bachelor of Arts in only three years. As a current master’s student and leader at Christian HELP, he positively impacts over 16,000 individuals annually through food and toy distributions.   

    Beyond his role at Christian HELP, Britt serves as a member of the Rotary Club of Seminole County, Heart of Florida United Way’s Emerging Leader Impact Group, and more.
  • Change Maker Junior: Anabel Joseph 
     
    Anabel is a dedicated advocate for mental health and community well-being. Through Boys & Girls Club of Central Florida’s Mental Health Myth Busters program, she challenges stigmas and promotes healthy coping strategies among her peers. Collaborating with her father, she distributes food to those in need and leads the Food for Thought initiative, partnering with Second Harvest Food Bank to address food insecurity. 

The 7th annual Change Maker Impact Awards will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at 6:00p.m. at the Aloft Orlando Lake Nona. Individual tickets are $95 and can be purchased here.
