How Heart of Florida United Way Saved our Community Millions

VITA Program

Heart of Florida United Way is proud to put millions of dollars back in the hands of hard-working community members.

Each year, we do this through our IRS-certified volunteer-operated Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, which provides free tax preparation services to individuals and families throughout Orange, Osceola, and Seminole counties.

Our dedicated volunteers assist community members in electronically filing basic income tax returns at convenient times and locations throughout the tax season, guaranteeing our clients receive all eligible tax credits and deductions.

Our 2024 Impact

In 2024, our 197 VITA volunteers worked together to:

  • Successfully transmit 2,502 federally accepted tax returns
  • Assist neighbors in claiming $730,266 in Earned Income Tax Credits (EITC), to support low- to moderate-income workers and families
  • Secure $2,618,670 in total tax refunds for our community
  • Save residents approximately $562,950 in tax preparer fees

Joining Forces for Financial Health

By returning over $2 million to Central Florida families, VITA not only supports individual households but also strengthens our local economy.
