Heart of Florida United Way (HFUW) is proud to announce that on Thursday, October 13, 2022, our very own Mikaela “Mika” Mendoza-Cardenal earned the Trailblazer Award at the Orlando Come Out with Pride Festival’s “We Shall Overcome: Celebrating LGBTQ+ Diversity” event.
Mika is the Clinical Quality Manager for Ryan White Part B/General Revenue at HFUW.
During the award presentation, Yasmin Andre, HFUW’s Ryan White Program Director, remarked that “Mika is a compassionate and cooperative spirit. She turns community engagement into more than just a concept. Mika listens and makes it a reality. Her work in and out of the office proves she is tireless in her pursuit of making personal advocacy a professional strategy.”
The “We Shall Overcome: Celebrating LGBTQ+ Diversity” event was a collaboration of Come Out with Pride, along with QLatinx, Bros in Convo, Orlando Gay Chorus, Central Florida Sounds of Freedom and Decolonizarte Teatro.
This awards ceremony was the fourth annual “We Shall Overcome” event and the first held in-person since 2020. The awards celebrate and recognize the impact made by diverse members of the LGBTQ+ community on the movement for social justice, as well as their efforts to ensure other diverse members of the community receive representation.
Congratulations to Mika on this incredible achievement! We are so honored that she chooses to Live United as a member of our HFUW team.
